King’s Birthday Honours 2025

I’m pleased to share that I’ve been awarded an MBE in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours, for services to legal aid and for founding Suffolk Law Centre (SLC).

Having formally retired last November, I now support the Law Centre in a small way as a legal volunteer. It’s a privilege to see the work continue in such capable hands.

This recognition reflects the efforts of a remarkable team at SLC, my former colleagues at ISCRE and the support of a wider community who have shared in the vision and helped make it a reality. I accept it on their behalf as well as my own.

We set up Suffolk Law Centre in response to a growing and urgent need: to ensure that people in our region were not left behind as legal aid provision shrank. The issue of legal advice deserts remains a serious challenge, and access to justice – for everyone, not just those who can afford it – must be recognised as a national priority.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this work over the years. Whilst thoroughly enjoying my new role running my equality law training and consulting business, I remain proud to have founded SLC.
